EFCC arrests Ex-Jigawa governor, Saminu Turaki

A former governor of Jigawa state, Saminu Turaki has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Saminu Turaki, who was a governor between 1999 and 2007 and a senator between 2007 and 2011, “has continuously evaded appearance in court,” the commission had said at the time he was declared wanted in 2014.

In 2011, the EFCC arraigned Turaki before a federal high court in Dutse, Jigawa state, in connection with a case of alleged criminal conspiracy, stealing, money laundering and misappropriation of funds to the tune of N36billion only.

Operatives of the commission reportedly picked him up in Abuja during the public presentation of a book on Zakariya Maimalari, a senior army officer at the time of the 1966 military coup. The anti-graft agency declared Turaki wanted for failing to appear in court over allegations of fraud.
