INEC storm National Assembly to notify Melaye of recall petition

-INEC officials arrive National Assembly complex over Sen. Melaye’s recall process.

Officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have arrived at the Senate wing of the National Assembly Complex to notify Senator Dino Melaye on the receipt petitions for his recall.

The officials arrived at the door of Melaye’s office with necessary documents believed to be the petition but met a locked office.

The embattled lawmaker had on Monday declared the 90-day deadline set for INEC within which it could serve him the notice as stipulated by Section 69 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) had expired.

The Senator, representing Kogi West Senatorial district in the National assembly, had earlier denied claims he was avoiding INEC officials in order to avoid receiving the petition from the election umpire and also through his lawyer, Chief Mike Ozekhome (SAN), instituted a court process against the recall.
