Senators argue over passage of 2018 budget
The Senate is at present debating the general principles of the 2018 budget, where lawmakers are already divided across party lines.
Members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are requesting for the prompt passage of the budget, their counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), are kicking against it.
Senate leader, Ahmad Lawan, and Sen. Eyinnaya Abaribe, have had a conflict over the matter.
Abaribe, who was the first to speak, described the budget as a “piece of fiction.”

Lawan challenged Abaribe ‘s assertion, expressing displeasure at his use of language
He described as wrong, Abaribe’s description of a document submitted by the President as ‘a piece of fiction’.
Also condemning the budget, a legislator from Gombe State, Joshua Lidani, said the budget was “built on quick sand.”
The plenary is still ongoing, as lawmakers are still speaking on the budget.
