General Shagaya Dies In Auto Accident

A former senator, General John Nanzip Shagaya, has died in a road accident.

Gen. Shagaya, who represented Plateau South in the Sixth Senate, between 2007-2011, was involved in a fatal auto crash on Sunday afternoon, while on his way to Langtang, Plateau State.

Naija News learnt that Shagaya was travelling in his Prado Jeep, which lost control along the road and somersaulted into the bush.

The Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC), Commander Bisi Kazeem, and former chairman of Langtang North Local Government, Chief Dan Dandur confirmed Shagaya’s death.

Expressing shock and sadness over Shagaya’s demise, an ex-Senate President, David Mark, the Generals death is a loss of one of  Nigeria’s “finest and fertile minds”.

The late General recently got appointed Chairman of National Institute for Policy and Strategy Studies, NIPSS, by President Muhammadu Buhari.

Shagaya was a former Minister of Internal Affairs as well as a former Economic Community of West African States Monitoring Group (ECOMOG) Commander.

The late senator was born on September 2, 1942.
