Offa Bank Robbery: Senate Advocates For Army base In Kwara South
Motivated by the Incident of the Armed robbery that took place in Offa, Kwara State, the Nigeria Senate yesterday passed a resolution urging the Federal Government to establish a Forward Operating Base (FOB) of the Nigerian Army in Kwara South senatorial district to forestall such incident in the nearest future.
Senator Rafiu Ibrahim (APC, Kwara) moved the motion that cumulated into the resolution while Senator Shaaba Lafiagi (APC, Kwara) seconded it.
“Worried that if such attacks are allowed to continue, it may lead to the closure of financial institutions in the town and this may cripple commercial activities in the town and its environs,” he said.
Senator Rafiu Ibrahim who condemned the incident of the robbery said that the armed robbers numbering up to 30 killed about 18 people.
The Senate directed the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris to reinforce security measures to secure lives and properties in the area.
The senate also admonished the banks affected by the raid to consider immediately reopening the affected branch to restore economic activities as soon as the security atmosphere improves.
The red Chamber further implored its Committees on Police Affairs and National Security and Intelligence to investigate the matter and report back to within two (2) weeks.
