Not Less Than Eight People Killed, Homes Burnt In Fresh Benue Attack
Not less than eight persons have been killed and five others injured in a fresh attack by armed herdsmen in Tseadough village in Kwande local council of Benue State, Naija News understands.
The Chairman of the local council, Mr Terdoor Kenti, who confirmed the sad incident said seven persons were killed during the attack on Saturday night and one of the six injured persons who were rushed to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, later died at about 7:20 pm on Sunday.
Kenti also stated that several homes were burnt down while a woman was kidnapped by the herdsmen. Kenti explains further that the remains of the victims have been deposited at the mortuary while those with various degrees of machete wounds were taken to hospital for treatment.
He also appealed to the people to remain calm in spite of the unprovoked attack and warned against any form of reprisal, adding that security agencies had been informed of the incident. At the time of filing this report, the police were yet to issue any statement confirming the attack.
The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni, however, said his men are already collating information on the attack and would issue a statement shortly. Besides, the chairman said that all relevant authorities had been briefed over the incident.
