Windstorm Wreck Havoc In Bauchi, Killing 30 People
Dogara Pleads With Federal And State Agencies To Provide Relief Materials To Windstorm Crisis Victims
Not less than 30 people were killed following a heavy windstorm in Bauchi metropolis and environs during the weekend.
The windstorm, which started at about 4 pm, Naija News understands lasted for several hours, forcing the Muslim Ummah celebrating Ed-el fitir to retire home for safety.
Shops, domestic animals and businesses were also affected in almost all the towns.
The Bauchi state Police command spokesman,DSP Datti Kamal Abubakar, who was saddened about the natural disaster expressed the readiness of the command in assisting other agencies in rescue operation and evacuation.
He said: “We have placed our men strategically to curb hoodlums taking advantage of the disaster to loot properties belonging to the victims of the windstorm disaster”.
This latest natural disaster is coming less than 48 hours after windstorm wreaked havoc in 11 villages in Alkaleri Local Government Area of the state, killing three people and destroying properties
Meanwhile, the speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has commiserated with the victims of windstorm.The speaker also called on relevant federal and state government agencies to quickly provide relief materials to the victims to alleviate their suffering.
Dogara urged relevant government agencies to quickly move in and provide immediate assistance to the victims of this disaster and come up with necessary emergency preparedness and early warning mechanisms to mitigate the effects of such natural disasters.
