Court Adjourns Sen. Jang’s Case Till October As EFCC Fails To Present Witness
EFCC Cites Security Reasons For Absence Of Witnesses
The Plateau State High Court has threatened to strike out the criminal case against Senator Jonah David Jang, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) if the commission continues to delay proceeding with flimsy excuses.
Justice Daniel Longji, who said this while speaking on the failure of the anti graft agency to produce witnesses, explained that he has the constitutional right to strike out the case, “but the defence counsel has not made that application; he has only reluctantly agreed to the adjournment”.
Naija News also gathered that the Jos High Court No. 5 being presided by Justice D. D. Longjin today adjourned to 30th, 31st October & 1st November, 2018 the case of financial misappropriation filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) against the Former Governor of Plateau and Senator representing Plateau Northern District, His Excellency Sen. Jonah Jang and Mr. Yusuf Gyang Pam.
Justice D. D. Longji of Plateau High Court adjourned hearing on the criminal case of corruption being instituted on Sen. Jang & Mr. Yusuf over failure of the EFCC to produce a witness in Court.
Rotimi Jacob, SAN who is the counsel to EFCC, informed the Court that they could not produce a single witness in court, citing security as reason for their inability to produce a witness.
Robert Clarke, SAN counsel to Senator Jonah David Jang and Yusuf Gyang Pam was visibly unhappy when in his words said “justice delayed is justice delayed” “How can the EFCC claim that they could not produce witnesses in court for security reasons while the EFCC is a security agency in itself. The EFCC is in possession of arms, how can they complain of security?”
