INEC To Suspend Voter Registration August 17
If Registration Closes, Eligible Voters Will Be Allowed To Register After 2019 General Election
Ahead of the 2019 general election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced that an halt would be put to the Voters Registration (CVR) exercise on August 17, urging electorate who haven’t registered to take advantage of the little time left.
In a statement signed by Richard Ntui, the administrative secretary, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Edo State, said once the registration is suspended, eligible voters will only be allowed to register again after the 2019 general elections.
Ntui said: “In order to ensure that prospective registrants are all captured, the Commission’s offices in the 18 local government areas and other centres in the state will remain open for the CVR exercise.
“Collection of Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) will be from 9am-5am daily from August 1 – August 17, 2018, including Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.”
He appealed to all eligible registrants who have not registered to take advantage of the window to do so, noting that the “Collection of PVCs will continue after the suspension of the CVR.“
