AWCON: Super Falcons Bounce Back With 4-0 Victory Over Zambia
The Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated the Shepolopolo of Zambia 4-0 on Wednesday at Cape Coast in Ghana in the second game of their 11th African Women Cup of Nations (AWCON).
The Falcons had lost their opening game to South Africa on Sunday but put their title defense back on tarck with a convincing victory over the Zambians.
Desire Oparanozie opened the scoring to give the Falcons a 1-0 lead going into the half-time, while Francesca Ordega made it two minutes into the second half.
Oparanozie got a brace to make it 3-0, while substitute Amarachi Okoronkwo put the result beyond doubt with her goal to make it 4-0.
The result puts Nigeria top of the group B table temporarily ahead of the South Africa versus Equatorial Guinea match which comes up later in the day.
The Falcons will now face Equatorial Guinea in their final group stage match on Saturday, while the Shepolopolo square off against South Africa on the same day.
The top two teams in the group will qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.
