Live Update: Cross River State 2019 Governorship Elections
2019 Campaigns have been concluded all over Nigeria, today 9th of March, 2019 residents of Cross River State would elect a new governor who would lead the state for the next four years.
Cross River State has three major contenders. They include the incumbent governor Ben Ayade of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Eyo Ekpo, a former Attorney General under former Governor Donald Duke, for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Senator John Owan-Enoh of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
All Progressives Congress (APC), the major opposition party, has evidently grown stronger in the last two years following the defection of staunch PDP men to the party. This might just be the first time that the APC can truly make real its desire to grab power from the PDP in the state since the return to democracy in 1999.
However, the internal tussle within the APC, with Both Usani Usani and Senator John Owan-Enoh contending over the candidature seem to have impacted negatively on the formidability of the party. INEC had ruled that the APC had no candidate in the state, but last Wednesday the Appeal Court sitting in Calabar overruled INEC’s ruling and reinstated Senator John Owan-Enoh as the authentic APC governorship candidate for the March 9, 2019 governorship election.
