Jigawa INEC Office Destroyed By Fire
The office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Gumel Local Government Area of Jigawa State, has been destroyed by fire.
SC Adamu Shehu, NSCDC spokesperson in the state, confirmed the incident to DAILY POST in Dutse.
Adamu disclosed that the office was completely razed down with everything in it destroyed, including important documents, and items such as furniture, generators, electronics and computers as well as other working materials.
He explained that the cause of the fire, which Naija News understands started around 9:30am on Thursday, might not be unconnected with electricity that was restored around that time by the electricity distribution company around the area.
He added that the fire raged for about three hours before a combined team of security operatives, the State Fire Service, men of security and civil defence and some good members of the community were able to completely put it out.
However, no life was reported lost in the inferno as at press time.
This online platform reports that INEC offices in certain states of the country were also destroyed by fire in the lead up to the 2019 general elections.
