What Saraki Said About Press Freedom In Nigeria
Senate president Bukola Saraki has reaffirmed the belief in the power and responsibility of the Nigerian media.
Saraki made this known on Friday while commemorating the World Press Freedom Day on Friday, May 3.
In a series of tweet, Saraki declared his support for the Nigerian press and re-emphasised commitment to the idea of a free and independent press.
In his tweet, he said; “Today, on #WorldPressFreedomDay, we reaffirm our belief in the power and responsibility of the media, and recommit ourselves to the ideals of a free and independent press.”
Similarly, Saraki said in another tweet where he wrote as thus; “We also reiterate that this power of the press comes with a great responsibility: to be the watchdogs that tell the accurate stories that protect, defend and preserve our democracy.”

The United Nations General Assembly declared May 3 to be World Press Freedom Day or just World Press Day aimed at raising awareness of the importance of the freedom of the press and remind governments of their duty.
