Nigerians React As Supreme Court Rules Against APC In Zamfara
A storm of reactions by Nigerians has greeted the judgment of the Supreme Court against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara state, northern Nigeria.
Naija News had reported earlier that the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal challenging the nullification of the APC primary elections in Zamfara state. The apex court also voided all votes cast for the party during the general elections.
The five-member panel of justices, in a unanimous judgment, held that the APC in Zamfara state failed to conduct primaries in accordance with the party rules.
This online news platform understands that the Supreme court in a lead judgment by Justice Paul Adamu Galinji, declared all votes cast for the APC as “wasted votes” and ordered that the runner-up candidate be sworn in if he fulfils the constitutional requirement of getting one-quarter of the total votes cast in at least two-thirds of the local government areas of the northern state.
The justices also awarded cost of N10m against APC in favour of the Kabiru Marafa faction of the APC and other respondents in the appeal.
Naija News reports that the panel sounded a note of warning to politicians against destroying the country’s democracy.
The governor-elect of the state, Mukhtar Shehu, filed the appeal challenging the judgment of a Sokoko appellate court which nullified the ruling party’s primaries in the state.
Moments after the news of the judgment broke, Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to react to the judgement.
Naija News captured some of the reactions below…

Remember the Great Oracle called the outcome of Zamfara polls, today the Supreme Court has affirmed it. Intriguing thing is: there must be a runoff poll between the parties that came 2nd & 3rd in the guber poll because none met the constitutional threshold

The thing that I remember about this man was when he suspended his governorship campaign because of the killings in his state.
Compassion is better than ‘integrity’.
Congratulations to the besieged people of Zamfara. https://t.co/4FblrV0V5e

We lost two States before going to Polls, Zamfara and Rivers. We lost Imo and Adamawa bc of ego. We lost Sokoto and Bauchi due to false confidence. We lost Oyo due to whatever it was we lost Oyo for. We have work to do in the build-up to the next round. Serious work!
