Xenophobia: Police Take Over As Abuja Shoprite, MTN Office Are Attacked (Video And Photos)
Protest In Abuja Shoprite
Angry protesters on Wednesday morning stormed the Lugbe, Abuja location of Shoprite in the capital city of Nigeria as well as MTN offices.
The protesters who had surrounded the mall were trying to forcefully gain entrance into the main building but are being resisted by police officers.
The protesters blocked the Lugbe Airport road in Abuja, causing traffic lockdown for both those coming into town and those heading to the airport for over 40 minutes.
The MTN office was similarly attacked as the mast was also burnt.
Naija News understands the face-off between the security operatives and the angry protesters resulted in the use of tear gas by the police even as the protesters also stoned the police.
The latest attack is coming less than 24 hours after the Lagos and Ibadan outlets of the chain store were also attacked.
The reprisal attacks are coming in response to the renewed xenophobic attack on Nigerians and other foreign nationals in South Africa.
