Court Rejects Uzor-Kalu’s Bail Request
A Federal High Court in Lagos, has rejected the request for post-conviction bail filed by a former governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu.
Justice Mohammed Idris had convicted of Kalu of N7.1bn fraud and sentenced him to 12-year imprisonment on December 4.
The ex-governor, however, filed a post-conviction bail on grounds of “health challenges that cannot be handled by medical officials in the prison.”
Justice Mohammed Liman dismissed Kalu’s application for post-conviction bail for lacking in merit and ordered his remand in prison custody pending the decision of the Court of Appeal where he is challenging his conviction.
