Egypt’s Population Hit 100m Mark
The population of Arab world’s most populous nation, Egypt has reached a milestone of 100 million people.
The country’s statistics agency disclosed this on Tuesday.
Egypt still has a high poverty ration with populations outside the capital living in endemic conditions.
The North African country retains its position as the most populous Arab nation and Africa’s third most populous country behind Ethiopia and Nigeria.
A counter installed atop the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics ticked over into nine digits for the first time, the agency said.
The country experiences the birth of a new child every 17.9 seconds, the statistics body calculated.
