How PDP’s Diri Replaced APC’s Lyon In Bayelsa (See Election Results)

The Supreme Court on Thursday nullified the election of Bayelsa State governor-elect, David Lyon and his running mate Biobarakuma Degi-Eremienyo.
David Lyon was to be sworn-in today, Friday.
A five-man panel of the Supreme Court led by Justice Mary Peter-Odili ordered INEC to withdraw the Certificate of Return issued to the All Progressives Congress’ candidates as the winners of the November 16, 2019 governorship election in the state.
It ruled that the information in Form CF 001 submitted by Degi-Eremieoyo was false.
The lead judgement read by Justice Ejembi Eko upheld the November 12, 2019, Judgement of the Federal High Court in Abuja that disqualified Degi-Eremieoyo from participating in the governorship poll.
The apex court held that since Degi-Eremieoyo shared a joint ticket with the governor-elect, his disqualification invalidated their nomination by the APC.
Justice Peter-Odili asked INEC to issue a fresh certificate to the governorship candidate with the highest votes cast and wide geographical spread in the governorship election held on November 16, 2020.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Douye Diri, is expected to be announced as the next governor of the state.
