Edo 2020: Obaseki’s Second-Term Bid Suffers ‘Serious’ Setback
Governor Godwin Obaseki‘s second-term bid has suffered a serious setback ahead of Edo 2020.
Naija News reports that Obaseki’s second-term bid suffered a further setback following the resignation of top government aides including Hon. Joe Okonigene, the Special Assistant to the Assembly Speaker on Security Matters and Hon. Aimiolemen Noah Idemudia, also known as Paddy Noah, the Special Assistant to Ikoba Okha Local Government.
Governor Obaseki’s former aides announced their resignation on Tuesday at a meeting with the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The former aides, it was learned, led thousands of their supporters, under the aegis of Edo Collective, to the residence of the candidate to declare their support despite reported threats from the Governor who, according to multiple claims, has developed cold feet.
Joe and Paddy Noah displayed their resignation letters publicly to loud cheers from the APC faithful present and praised the SIMPLE agenda manifesto of Ize-Iyamu as a well-thought-out document that captures the aspiration of the youths and proffers pragmatic solutions to the problems confronting the state.
Other Leaders of the Edo Collective group who were present at the event included Hon. Agomini Babatunde Martins and the President. Barr. Hope Iyare. They all assured Ize-Iyamu of their readiness to intensify mobilization efforts across the 18 LGAs of the State to secure his victory at the polls on the 19th of September.
While receiving the former aides and other youths, Ize-Iyamu thanked them for their support and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling the youth empowerment and employment creation promise of his manifesto.
Meanwhile, the Edo Collective group is one of the most influential youth groups in Edo State with thousands of registered members across the 192 wards of the State.
