ASUU React To Removal Of Toyin Ogundipe As UNILAG’s Vice Chamcelor

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has condemned the “purported removal” of the institution’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Toyin Ogundipe.

Naija News Understands that in a statement signed by the Union’s Chairman, Dr Dele Ashiru, the union described the removal of Ogundipe as illegal and uncalled for, saying that it is the plan of the Pro-Chancellor, Dr Wale Babalakin, to destabilise the university.

According to the statement, Section 17 of the University of Lagos Act (as amended) unambiguously provides the procedure for the removal of a Vice Chancellor.

It read, “Our Union, therefore, condemns, in the strongest terms, this illegal, recless and destructive action by the Pro-Chancellor, Dr Wale Babalakin”.

The Union said it reaffirm its confidence in the leadership of Professor Toyin Ogindipe as the Vice-Chancellor of the university.”

However, in new development, The Governing Council of the University of Lagos (UNILAG) has appointed Professor Omololu Soyombo as Acting Vice Chancellor of the university.
