Lagos State Releases Official School Calendar For 2020/2021 Academic Session
The Lagos State government has released the official school calendar for primary and secondary schools in the state ahead of the planned resumption on September 21.
The details of the 2020/2021 school calendar were made public by the Lagos State Ministry of Education in a statement during the weekend by Olaniran Emmanuel, Head of Public Affairs, Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA).
According to the statement, all private and public schools in the state below tertiary level will resume First Term academic activities on Monday, 21st September, 2020 while the term runs through Friday 18th December, 2020.
The Second Term starts on Monday 4th January, 2020, and runs through Friday 6th April, 2021 while students will resume for Third Term on Tuesday 4th May, 2021 and close on Friday 6th August, 2021.
Abiola Seriki-Ayeni, Director-General, OEQA, in the statement, warned school administrators to ensure full compliance with all COVID-19 protocols.
She said it is important for compliance levels to be maintained so schools can not just reopen, but remain open after several months of forced closure due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
“All schools must make efforts to comply with these requirements, not just for the improvement of the overall school operations but for safe reopening for academic activities to support the Lagos State Government quest for a full return,” she said.
As part of the COVID-19 protocols, the Lagos State Ministry of Education noted that teachers, students, and visitors are expected to wear face mask at all time, observe physical distancing, wash hands at intervals and maintain a high standard of personal hygiene, while any sign of COVID-19 infection must be reported immediately.
