A 54-year-old housewife, Zainab Bello and a 51-year-old native doctor have been arraigned in an Iyaganku Family Court in Oyo State for alleged female genital mutilation.

The women were charged with conspiracy and subjecting a child to genital mutilation.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Gbemisola Adedeji, informed the court that the women carried out the outdated practice on a two-year-old girl in Oyo state between Dec.16 and 17, 2021, at Sarumi Compound, Asipa, Oyo Town, in Oyo State.

She stated further that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Oyo State 2000 and Oyo State Childs Right Law 2016.

The defendants counsel, Mr M. O Folorunso asked the court to grant his clients bail.

Both women pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate S. H Adebisi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N50,000 each with one surety in like sum.

Meanwhile, three children have been kidnapped by two tenants less than 24hrs after moving into a new apartment at Itsekiri street in Ajuwon, Ogun state.

The two women who are in their 30s moved into a one-room apartment in the compound.

An eyewitness stated that they claimed to be students in a school in Ikeja, Lagos and they would be staying in the apartment for 3weeks. Read more
