85% Of Nigerians Will Have Electricity Before The End Of 2022 – Minister
The Minister of State for Power, Goddy Agba has assured that before the end of the current year, 85% of Nigerians will have access to electricity.
He gave the assurance on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking at the town hall meeting, organized by the federal ministry of information and culture.
Naija News understands the aim of the town hall meeting was to showcase the achievements of the current administration in the area of infrastructural development.
Agba promised further that all ongoing power projects embarked upon by this administration would be completed before President Muhammadu Buhari leaves office in 2023.
The minister added that efforts are in top gear to ensure all houses in the country are metered so consumers only pay for what they use.
“Power failure is a thing of the past,” Agba said.
“By the end of the year, 85 percent of Nigerians will have electricity. Also, all the houses will be metered – you will only pay for what you consume.”
Earlier, Naija News had also reported that President Muhammadu Buhari has justified the huge investments and borrowings by his administration in the infrastructural base of Nigeria.
The President who spoke at the Aso Rock Villa in Abuja when he played host to a delegation from Kaduna State pointed out that he understands the key role infrastructure can play in the lives of Nigerians hence the huge investments and focus on the sector.
President Buhari observed that once infrastructural facilities like rail, road, and power are sorted out, the people of the country will be able to focus on business activities easily including moving goods from point of production to points of sale/need.
The President stated that without his intervention in infrastructural facilities and development, “people would have been trekking because the road was not there, the rail was not there and there was so much insecurity.”
