Reactions As Angry Fans Destroy Abuja Stadium Facilities
Nigerians have condemned the destruction of facilities at the newly refurbished Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Tuesday following the invasion of the pitch by some angry Nigerian fans.
Naija News reports that the angry fans thronged the pitch and vandalised stadium facilities in protest of the Super Eagles’ failure to qualify for the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
However, following the final whistle, a crowd of irate fans stormed the pitch, took over the bench, and smashed its glasses in anger.
The angry fans also destroyed other facilities in the 60,000 capacity stadium which was renovated in August 2020 by the Chairman of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote.
Despite attempts by security operatives to forestall the breakdown of law and order, the angry mob overran the barricade in the stadium.
Reacting to the destruction, some Nigerians on Twitter condemned the vandalisation that occurred in the stadium and described the fans’ action as disgraceful and a show of shame.
See some of the reactions below:
Same Nigerians that vandalised the Abuja stadium today, will complain about lack of maintenance tomorrow.

Nigerians destroying the Abuja stadium because we didn't win makes no sense at all.
If fans destroy their stadium everytime they lost a match then Old Trafford won't be existing by now.

Something became apparent as I watched destruction of Abuja Stadium transfixed in my seat. The number of people in Nigeria who don't have/have run out of fucks to give has grown so much our security people can't cope.I saw policemen running for their lives & I almost pitied them.

The renovated Abuja National Stadium shouldn’t be vandalized by angry fans. Violence & Destruction mentality by the youths is worrisome.

There's no justification for whatever that is currently happening at the National stadium at the moment. Nigerians should condemn it entirely. Take your L and go back home. Your team played woefully and lost.

That show of shame at the National Stadium was never about the Match Outcome.
It's about Nigerians looking for where to vent their Anger & Frustrations on.
The Country's Wicked Leaders have made everyone a Raving Lunatic.
The Coming days won't be as easy…

You can be angry and not do stupid things. Vandalism of the National Stadium will never ever be justified. A lot of us are angry and pissed off today but vandalism is not the answer.
