Gunmen In Police Unform Kidnap Popular Philanthropist In Kogi
Unknown gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a renowned philanthropist in Lokoja, Kogi State capital, Naija News reports.
The victim who is said to be the President and Founder of Enemona Josh Humanitarian Foundation, Ambassador David Onoja was reportedly whisked away on Thursday morning at about 10.30 am.
The assailants according to reports, stormed Onoja’s residential home this morning fully dressed in police uniforms and heavily armed with AK-47s and bulletproof vests.
A family source who spoke with reportedly spoke with Dailytrust said Onoja was picked up from his house by six gunmen.
He explained that the gunmen invaded Onoja’s house along Wada road in a sienna bus painted in maroon colour and manhandled him before they whisk him away to an unknown destination.
The sources disclosed further that the armed men gained entrance to the house through the main gate and introduced themselves as police officers from the Kogi State Police Command.
Their information had sounded genuine according to the source, hence they were allowed access to the house and only for them to rush into the parlour, and forcefully kidnapped Onoja and pushed him into their waiting vehicle and drove away.
Confirming the incident, the Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kogi Police Command, SP William Ovye-Aya said they got informed of the situation through a little girl in Onoja’s residence, who narrated how it happened.
“Although, we are not certain whether it is kidnapping but according to a family member, the men were armed with AK-47s and bulletproof vests.
“The police has swung into action by deploying some officers to the resident of the philanthropist to get details that could assist us to launch a manhunt for his eventual rescue.
“As it is, we are on top of the situation and would work in collaboration with other security agencies to ensure that we track down the hoodlums and bring them to book.”
The PPRO hereby appealled to the public to report to the police any suspicious individual(s) or group and information about the whereabouts of the abducted foundation president.
