A group of unknown gunmen has attacked Ayamelum Divisional Police Station at Anaku in Anambra State on Wednesday morning.

It was gathered that some police operatives on duty repelled the attackers. However, the gunmen set ablaze some operational vehicles parked inside the station.

Sources disclosed that over three vehicles were burnt down, but the station was not affected.

Confirming the incident, the state police public relations officer, DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, said, “The attack was successfully repelled by our officers. We didn’t record any casualties.

“Our arms are intact and our men are in high spirit. Operations are still ongoing in the area to arrest the hoodlums.”

The  attack came weeks after the state governor, Charles Soludo suspended Monday’s sit-at-home initiated by the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Recall, IPOB declared the sit at home order to press, the release of its leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, who is facing charges on alleged jumping of bail, running a proscribed organisation, and terrorism.

Despite the efforts of the new governor to bring peace, attacks orchestrated by unknown gunmen had increased in the state.
