Sultan Reveals When Ramadan Will End, Declares Monday As Eid-el-Fitr
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abukakar III says the 2022 Ramadan fast will continue in Nigeria till Sunday, 1st of May.
The Sultan made the declaration in a statement on Saturday night as the moon which signals the end of the Ramadan fast was not sighted anywhere in the country.
To this end, the Eid-el-Fitr which marks the celebration of the end of the Ramadan fast has been fixed for Monday, 2nd of May in Nigeria.
A statement via the official Twitter handle of the National Moonsighting Committee reads: “His Eminence the Sultan of Sokoto has declared Monday 2nd of May as the first day of Shawwal.
“No positive sighting claims were received from members of the National moonsighting committee and other Emirates. The Sultanate will release an official statement shortly.”

The moon was not sighted in many other countries as well including Saudi Arabia.
The Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, observed by Muslims worldwide as a month of fasting and prayer.
During this time, the Muslims observe fasting from dusk till dawn and Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam.
