1. FG Reveals Identity Of Terrorist Group Behind Ondo Catholic Church Attack

The Federal Government has revealed the identity of the terrorist group behind the attack on St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State.

The Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola on Thursday linked fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) to the attack which took place on Sunday.

Aregbesola revealed this while addressing State House correspondents after a meeting of the National Security Council presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to the former Governor of Osun State, the federal government has located the terrorists responsible for the killing of worshippers in Owo.

Aregbesola who addressed the newsmen alongside the Inspector-General of Police, Alkali Baba Usman, directed security agencies to go after the perpetrators of the attack and bring them to book.

2. 2023: INEC Gives Political Parties Deadline To Submit List Of Presidential Candidates, Running Mates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has told political parties in the country to submit their list of candidates for national elections (Presidential/Vice Presidential, Senatorial and House of Representatives) latest by Friday 17th June 2022.

The INEC Chairman, Professor Mahmood Yakubu gave the directive on Thursday in Abuja during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners.

He emphasized that the portal for the submission of the list of candidates for national elections will automatically shut down at 6.00pm on Friday 17th June 2022.

He however added that the list of party candidates for governorship and House of Assembly elections will be uploaded from 1st to 15th July 2022.

The portal for this purpose will shut down by 6.00 pm (1800hrs) on Friday 15th July 2022.

Prof. Yakubu pointed out that in both cases, only names of candidates that emerged from democratic primaries as provided by Sec. 84 of the Electoral Act 2022 shall be accepted.

3. Democracy Day: Buhari Govt Declares Public Holiday

To mark the 2022 Democracy Day celebration, the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration has declared Monday, 13th June 2022, as a public holiday.

Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement on Thursday by the Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola.

While congratulating Nigerians on the 2022 Democracy Day celebration, Aregbesola called for support for the Buhari government in its efforts at ensuring a secured, united and prosperous nation.

4. 2023: Osinbajo Speaks On Why Tinubu Emerged Winner Of The APC Presidential Ticket

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has congratulated the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu, over his victory.

Naija News reported that Tinubu emerged winner of the presidential ticket of APC with a wide margin, followed by Rotimi Amaechi and Yemi Osinbajo.

In a statement shared on social media, Yemi Osinbajo congratulated Tinubu on his victory, President Muhammadu Buhari and leaders of the party for a successful convention and presidential primary.

Giving reasons why the former Lagos Governor cliched the presidential ticket, Osinbajo said Tinubu has shown passion, courage, patriotism and determination in the cause of nation building for many decades.

According to Osinbajo, Tinubu’s sterling contributions to Nigeria’s democracy and its progress made him stand out in the election.

Osinbajo called on all members of the party to unite behind Tinubu to ensure the victory of the party in the 2023 general election.

5. Ex-Kebbi Governor, Aliero Dumps APC For PDP, Gives Reason

A former Governor of Kebbi State, Senator Adamu Aliero, had dumped the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Naija News reports that Aliero, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), announced his defection on Thursday in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital.

Aliero said his decision to dump the ruling party was informed due to the injustice meted out to him and his supporters across the state.

The Senator said that the treatment of his supporters unjustly forced him out of the party to join the PDP despite his several efforts to resolve the issues.

Aliero asserted that some of the efforts made included complaining to the national headquarters of the party.

He, therefore, appealed to all his supporters in Kebbi Central Senatorial District as well as other loyalists across the state to vote for PDP to ensure its victory at all levels.

6. 2023: Jonathan Sends Message To Tinubu, Peter Obi, Atiku And Other Candidates

Ahead of the 2023 general election, former President Goodluck Jonathan has sent an important message to presidential candidates of all political parties.

In a statement shared on Twitter, Jonathan said the emergence of the flag bearers after submitting to a rigorous primary election demonstrate their belief and interest in the progress of the nation.

The former president urged the various party candidates to conduct their political campaigns in a manner devoid of resentment, divisiveness and treachery.

According to Jonathan, no ambition is worth the life of another and candidates must shun violence and acts that will encourage any form of bloodletting.

7. Only Peter Obi’s Faction Of Labour Party Is Recognized – NLC

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Thursday stated that the Labour Party faction of a former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, is the only recognised faction.

This is coming after a faction of the party declared a former chairman of the party in Anambra State, Jude Ezenwafor as the winner of the presidential primary it organised on Wednesday.

Ezenwafor, however, on Thursday announced his withdrawal from the 2023 presidential race.

According to Ezenwafor, his decision to withdraw from the race is based on personal reasons.

The National President of the NLC, Ayuba Wabba while reacting to the emergence of Ezenwafor as a factional presidential candidate said his faction is not recognised.

Wabba further stated that the NLC and TUC recognize the leadership of the Labour Party led by Barr. Julius Abure

8. 2023: PDP BOT Meets Atiku Over Running Mate

The Peoples Democratic Party Board of Trustees on Thursday had a closed-door meeting with the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar.

Naija News gathered that the meeting which was led by the Chairman of PDP’s BOT, Walid Jibrin, was held in Abuja.

The BOT of the main opposition party and the former Vice President met to discuss the choice of his running mate ahead of the 2023 presidential election.

There are speculations that the Atiku would pick his running mate from the South-East.

Those in attendance were former vice president Namadi Sambo, former governor of Jigawa State, Dr Sule Lamido, former Imo State governor, Senator Emeka Ihedioha, former Kaduna State governor, Ahmed Makarfi, former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark, Prof. Jerry Gana and a host of others.

9. President Buhari To Address Nigerians On Sunday

The President of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari will address Nigerians on Sunday at 7:00 am via a live broadcast.
The Minister of Information, Lai Mohammed revealed this in a statement released on Thursday.

The President’s address would be centred around the commemoration of Democracy Day on June 12th, 2022.

According to the minister, this year’s Democracy Day would be the fourth time Nigerians would mark the event on the 12th of June.

10. Details Of APC NWC Members’ Meeting With Tinubu Emerge

The details of Thursday’s meeting between members of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Bola Tinubu have emerged.
Naija News reports that the National Chairman of the ruling party, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, led members of the committee to the Abuja residence of the party’s presidential candidate.

Speaking at the meeting, Adamu stated that the committee came to congratulate Tinubu on his emergence as the party’s flagbearer and to assure him of their commitment to his presidential ambition.

The APC Chairman asserted that the NWC and the party are committed to ensuring that Tinubu emerges as the winner of the 2023 presidential election

He, however, disclosed that he is committed to Tinubu’s presidential campaign, stressing that the committee has become the “foot soldiers” of Tinubu.
