Owo Massacre: South West Governors Take Action

South West governors have reacted to the massacre of over 30 congregants in a Catholic church at Owo, Ondo State.
During a virtual meeting on Friday, the governors deliberated on the rising insecurity plaguing the country.
Speaking on the unfortunate incident, the governors called for immediate intervention in the South West as a whole.
A communique signed by Governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo, Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti, Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos, Seyi Makinde of Oyo and Gboyega Oyetola of Osun, declared a three day mourning to honor the Owo victims.
The communique said starting from Monday, June 13 to Wednesday, June 15, 2022, “the Governors should direct the flying of Flags at Half Mast in all public buildings, facilitates and official residences across all the States in the South West in honour of the victims of the Owo terror attack.”
The communiqué, which was made public by Gov Akeredolu on Sunday, quoted the governors as recommending an increase in the scope of surveillance of the activities those they tagged undocumented settlers by relevant security agencies in all the States.
In other news, armed men suspected to be Fulani herdsmen on Sunday attacked and killed 11 people at Igama community in the Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State.
Sources around the area told Naija News on the phone that the attackers also destroyed many houses in the community.
The source said: “The Fulani herdsmen stormed Igama village this morning (Sunday), and directed their attack on youths in the community.” Read more
