NNPP-Labour Party: ‘Kwankwaso Could Accept Being Peter Obi’s Running Mate’
The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has stated that the talks of an alliance with Labour Party is going smoothly with a positive result expected.
This was made known by the national publicity secretary of the NNPP, Dr. Agbo Major.
He stated that the presidential candidate of the NNPP, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso would not have a problem accepting to be the running mate of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
On the proposed alliance, Major told Daily Trust that talks were still ongoing and he wouldn’t want to speculate on the outcome.
While stating that Kwankwaso or Obi could accept being each other’s vice, the NNPP’s spokesperson said, “By the time we are done with the discussions, Nigerians will be happy, whichever way it turns out to be.”
Naija News reports that speculations had emerged claiming Peter Obi, who has the backing of many southern youths, might run a joint ticket with Kwankwaso, who possesses massive northern support.
Recall that Rabiu Kwankwaso had confirmed his party is in talks with Labour Party presidential flag-bearer over an alliance.
The former Kano State Governor confirmed this in an interview with BBC Hausa.
Kwankwaso in a barely three minutes video clip shared by BBC Hausa on Saturday morning, confirmed he is privately deliberating with Obi over the possible merger.
Speaking ahead of the 2023 elections during the interview, Kwankwaso said he is truly in talks with Peter Obi. He said consultations are ongoing in his camp and he believes the same is happening with the Labour Party.
