Four Police Officers Arrested In Rivers Over Alleged Land Grabbing
The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has arrested four of its personnel over alleged involvement in land grabbing and harassment of civilians.
Some estate owners in the Rumuahorlu Community in Obio-Akpor Local Government Area of the state are said to have filed complaints at the command headquarters, accusing the force men of incessant harassment and forceful occupation of their properties.
The landlords, Naija News learnt petitioned the Inspector-General of Police and the state Commissioner of Police over the matter.
The community people lament excess intimidation and extortion from the security personnel. They also accused the officer of reselling their land, after forcefully grabbing it from them.
Reports said operatives of the state police command on Wednesday, August 3 raided a building reported to be the camp of the police officers on the illegal operation.
The operatives who were from different tactical units of the command reportedly stormed the Cedar Wood Estate with over 20 trucks, acting on the orders of the Commissioner of Police, Friday Eboka.
Naija News understands that some civilians who are said to be drivers of the erring officers were also arrested and a patrol van without a plate number belonging to them was impounded.
