Reactions As Arise TV Presenter, Rufai Oseni Gets Fined Over BRT Lane Incident
Reactions have trailed the punishment given to popular Television presenter, Rufai Oseni for committing a traffic offence in Lagos State.
Naija News reports that Oseni was arrested on Monday for driving on the BRT lane in Lagos, an offence punishable by law in the state.
In a series of tweets on Monday, the anchor, who admitted that he was arrested by the police for passing the BRT lane, accused police operatives of pointing guns at him.
The TV presenter also alleged that the security operatives forcefully seized his vehicle and threatened to harm him.
In a swift response, the state Government through Gboyega Akosile, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, vowed to prosecute the presenter for contravening the traffic law.
Subsequently, the TV anchor appeared before a mobile Lagos court on Tuesday and was accused of contravening the Lagos State Transport Law of 2018.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin disclosed that Oseni pleaded guilty to the crime.
The court found him guilty of driving on the BRT lane in contravention of the law and was fined the sum of N70,000. After he made the payment, his vehicle was released to him.
However, some Nigerians have taken to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to express their reactions to the development.
Below are some of the reactions.
For a country where law officers & govt officials break laws the most, common citizens get bullied too much and their rights trampled upon once they commit minor offenses like passing BRT lane. Rufai erred, but that doesn't make him a deadly criminal. So why point a gun at him?

Glad he sorted out the traffic offense. Now looking forward to watching @ruffydfire on @ARISEtv do us citizens the good service of his courageous evidence based analysis of the state of our country and people.
May our journalism get more of his kind for our common good.👍🏾✍🏾✍🏾

Rufai Oseni (Arise Tv) should be given Barrister Effiong Inibehe's treatment to cure him of his deviant behaviour; as a big lesson to some Nigerians that believe once they have access to the control of the media by virtue of their professions they are automatically above the law.

Rufai has apologised, he realized his mistake and admitted his actions were wrong. But here is you still defending his action because of your bias mind. Yet you talk about a better Nigeria.

Rufai committed a crime, harasses law enforcement, came on SM to lie abt what happened, in a bid to rile mob online action against the police and govt, got called out and I see my people still staning him LOL nonsense

I have seen more tweets from APC boys condemning and mocking Rufai, than tweets about the ongoing ASUU strike or dollar rate and the economy.

Mr Rufai Oseni was in court earlier today. He was found guilty of contravening Lagos State Transport Law (2018) and he paid the fine of 70k. The barbarians wishing for him to be jailed can now calm their dicks. Tomorrow he appears on TV to pepper una papa!
