Iniubong Umoren: Nigerians React As Court Sentences Uduak Akpan To Death
Reactions have trailed the death sentence given to Uduak Akpan, the first accused in the murder of a graduate of the University of Uyo, late Iniubong Umoren.
Naija News earlier reported that Justice Bassey Nkanang of the Akwa Ibom State High Court sentenced Akpan to death by hanging for the murder of Umoren.
The presiding judge also sentenced the accused to life imprisonment on the charge of rape preferred against him.
After the court ruling, Akpan attempted to run out of the court but it took the intervention of the police to stop him from escaping.
The three persons who stood trial for the murder of Iniubong were Uduak-Abasi Akpan, Frank Akpan and Anwan-Bassey Akpan, who are the first, second and third accused persons.
The father of the first accused was charged as an accomplice in the murder, while his sister was charged with accessory because she harboured her brother in her residence in Calabar in a bid to assist him to escape justice.
The court, however, discharged and acquitted Frank Akpan and Anwan-Bassey Akpan, the second and third accused persons.
Following the development, some netizens took to the micro-blogging platform, Twitter to react to the court judgement.
