1. We’re Working On $464m Foreign Airlines Trapped Funds – FG
The Federal Government is working out measures to resolve the $464million foreign airlines trapped in the country, Minister of Information Lai Mohammed stated on Monday.
The Minister, who embarked on a guided tour of the new Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos said relevant authorities of the government have escalated action on the issue assuring that very soon the matter will be history.
The declaration by Mohammed comes amid a threat by some foreign carriers to either cut flight frequencies or suspend flights into the country.
United Arab Emirates carrier- Emirates Airlines issued a notice of flight suspension effective September 1, 2022.
2. Kwankwaso Humiliated Me – Shekarau Speaks On Time Spent In NNPP
Former Governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau has confirmed his Defection from New Nigeria Peoples Party NNPP.
The senator, while speaking to a crowd at the Kano Foundation office along BUK Road, accused the presidential candidate of the NNPP, Rabiu Kwankwaso of not only betraying him, but humiliating him.
Shekarau disclosed that during his brief stay in the NNPP, he was the only one given a senatorial form while leaving his teeming supporters to wallow in destitution.
3. Police Speak On Commencing 2022 Constables Recruitment
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Monday debunked reports in a national daily that it had commenced the 2022 Police Constables recruitment into the Nigeria Police Force.
Naija News reports that this was made known in a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The Police asked Nigerians to disregard the recruitment advert, stating unequivocally that the advert has no connection with the Nigeria Police Force.
4. Peter Obi Highlights Areas That Must Be Tackled For A Better Economy
The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has identified certain areas that should be tackled to ensure that Nigeria’s economy becomes better.
Obi explained that investment in intangible assets such as education and power are critical to boost in the economy.
Obi said this on Monday at the 2022 Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Bar Association at the Eko Hotels, Lagos.
The former governor of Anambra state spoke alongside the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar; All Progressives Congress vice-presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima; amongst others.
5. 2023: Tinubu And I Will Replicate What We Did In Lagos, Borno For Nigeria – Shettima
The vice presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Kashim Shettima has vowed that he and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will hit the ground running if Nigerians vote for them in 2023.
He said both of them as Governors of Borno and Lagos States respectively recorded massive developmental feats and they will replicate the feats in Nigeria.
Naija News reports Shettima made the submission on Monday in Lagos State at the general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in which he represented the APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.
Urging Nigerians to ‘follow the man wey know the road,’ Shettima boasted that he built some of the best schools in Borno State as Governor when insecurity was plaguing the state.
6. Many Terrorists Killed As NAF Jets Bomb Stronghold Of ISWAP Leader, Fiya Ba Yuram In Sambisa Forest
The Nigerian Military has recorded more wins against insurgents and terrorists in the country by taking the battle to them in their hideouts.
Information made available to Naija News on the developments says fighter jets of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) over the weekend, bombed the hideout of the current Leader of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), Fiya Ba Yuram at Sambisa forest.
Ba Yuram is the leader of the ISWAP terrorists who took over the group following the killing of Boko Haram Leader, Abubakar Shekau, last year.
It was gathered that the military got hold of credible intelligence information about the gathering of some terrorists at his den in Sambisa Forest for a particular mission.
Based on this, fighter jets were mobilized and dispatched to the location from the Air Component of Operation of Hadin Kai.
A military source quoted by PR Nigeria says the airstrikes were successful and many of the terrorists were killed. It could however not be confirmed if the ISWAP leader was also killed in the air strike.
7. I Will Hand Over Federal Universities To State Govts – Atiku
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, on Monday, vowed to hand over Federal Government-owned universities to state governments if he emerges president in 2023.
Atiku stated this while speaking at the ongoing 2022 Nigerian Bar Association’s Annual General Conference, Naija News reports.
The event theme ‘Bold Transitions’ is being held at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos State and will run until August 26.
Atiku, while addressing lawyers at the event, said, “The only way is to make sure that you make a conducive environment available to both foreign and local investors to participate in our country, whether it is infrastructure, whether it is education, whether it is power.
8. Gunmen Kill Top Army Officer In Anambra
Yet-to-be identified gunmen have reportedly assassinated an army officer whose name was given as Major Churchill Orji at the Azia area in Ihiala local government area of Anambra State.
According to Vanguard, Orji hails from Nneogidi village, Agulu, in the Anaocha local government area of the state.
Orji’s secondary schoolmate, Leonard Edu, while lamenting the death of the Army officer, said he was his senior at Agulu Boys Secondary School.
It remains unclear what took the late army officer to Azia, which is considered one of the most dangerous parts of the state as the area has become a den of the dreaded gunmen.
9. 2023 Election Not About Religion, Tribe ― Peter Obi
The presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi on Monday said the 2023 election is not about religion or tribe.
The former Governor of Anambra State said the forthcoming electoral process is about character and competence in leadership.
Obi stated this on Monday at the Nigerian Bar Association Annual General Conference, (NBA-AGC).
The presidential candidate who stated that Nigeria is in a mess added that the country got there because of the accumulative effect of bad leadership.
Obi called for a bold transition of the country from a secured state to a highly secured state.
10. Buhari Has Done His Best To Tackle Insecurity, Economy – Yuguda
Former Governor of Bauchi State, Isa Yuguda has said President Muhammadu Buhari has done his best in tackling the security and economic challenges facing the nation.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television on Monday, Yuguda stated that the President has really tried to manage the country’s affairs despite various concerns.
He said the statistics on Nigerian security and economy were depressing and not encouraging, stating that insecurity is a historical thing.
Yuguda added that the security and economic concerns didn’t start with Buhari’s government, stressing that Buhari is not to blame for the surge in attacks across the country.
He said the security of states is not one of the main responsibilities of the president, and that governors swore to protect lives and property in their states.
