FG Grants 108 Lebanese, 14 Britons, Others Nigerian Citizenship

The Muhammadu Buhari-led Government has granted Nigerian citizenship to 286 foreign nationals from 49 countries.

Naija News reports that the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, made this known in an advertorial titled “Ministry of Interior Announcement.”

The document disclosed that the conferment of citizenship on the awardees was done by naturalisation and registration, as approved by President Muhammadu Buhari.

It stated that 208 of the beneficiaries would be awarded citizenship by naturalisation, while 78 of them would receive citizenship by registration, according to The Punch.

According to the document, a ceremony to confer the award on the recipients will be presided over by Buhari at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, September 15, 2022.

It said the awardees are expected to appear in person at the appropriate ministry to begin proper documentation, starting from Monday, September 12, 2022.

The documents also advised the recipients to personally come to the Ministry of Interior, Department of Citizenship and Business for proper documentation and accreditation from Monday.

The beneficiaries include 108 Lebanese, 16 Italians, 14 Britons, five Nigeriens, and two Chadians. Others are nationals from Serbia, Kenya, Belarus, lia, Romania, Zimbabwe, Ukraine and Ethiopia.

Also included are nationals from Egypt, the United States, Sudan, Sri Lanka, Syria, Greece, India, Dominican Republic, France, Palestine, Australia, Scotland, Pakistan, Jordan, Cyprus, and Ireland.

Other beneficiaries are nationals from Turkey, Germany, Israel, Uganda, Liberia, Iran, China, Tunisia, Bulgaria, Venezuela, Iraq, Croatia, Spain, the Philippines, Cameroon, Congo, Eritrea, Sierra Leone, Mali, and São Tomé and Príncipe.
