EPL: Chelsea Co-Owner, Boehly Opens Up On Why Tuchel Was Sacked
German professional football coach, Thomas Tuchel did not have a shared vision with Chelsea owners and that was the reason he was sacked, said the club’s co-owner, Todd Boehly.
Naija News recalls that the English Premier League club announced last week that it has parted company with Tuchel.
The Blues made the announcement in a post on its official website barely 24 hours after losing to Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League.
Tuchel’s sack met club fans, pundits and football lovers across the board in shock as many consider the development unfair to the German manager who has won trophies including the UEFA Champions League for the club within the limited time of his stay.
Speaking, however, at the SALT Conference in the United States earlier on Tuesday, Boehly said Tuchel was relieved of his appointment with the club because of his unwillingness to buy into a shared vision.
“When you take over any business, You have to make sure you are aligned with the people in the business, and Tuchel is obviously extremely talented and obviously someone who had great success with Chelsea,” Boehly said.
He added: “Our vision for the club was to find a manager who really wanted to collaborate with us, a coach who really wanted to collaborate.
“There are a lot of walls to break down at Chelsea. Before, the first team and academy did not really share data, did not share information about where the top players were coming from. Our goal is to bring a team together; all of that needs to be a well-oiled machine.
“The reality of our decision was that we were not sure that Thomas saw it the same way we saw it. No one is right or wrong, we just did not have a shared vision for the future. It was not about Zagreb, it was about the shared vision for what we wanted Chelsea to look like.
“It was not a decision that was made because of a single win or loss. It was a decision that we thought was the right vision for the club.”
Naija News reports that Boehly, along with co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, have since appointed former Brighton coach, Graham Potter, to succeed Tuchel at Chelsea.
