2023: Tinubu Targets Over Five Million Votes In Lagos – Ojelabi
The chairman of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi has disclosed that the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, is targeting over five million votes in the state alone during the 2023 general election.
The Lagos APC chairman said it’s the first time the state is producing a presidential candidate on the APC’s platform since its creation in 1967, hence the state is not leaving any stone unturned.
Naija News reports that Ojelabi stated this at the inauguration of the 163-member Lagos state APC election campaign committee at the party office in the state.
He noted that campaigns in the state must therefore adopt new strategies.
According to him, the committee’s mandate is to coordinate the campaigns for presidential, governorship and parliamentary elections in the state.
He also noted that the committee is faced with the challenge to canvass over five million votes for Tinubu in the state because “Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is expecting not less than five million votes from Lagos.”
Ojelabi named the state governor Babaijde Sanwo-Olu as the chairman of the committee, the deputy governor Femi Hamzat as the vice chairman, and himself as the deputy chairman.
Others include Ganiyu Solomon as director-general while Ogboni Fuad Oki will serve as secretary, the three vice chairmen of the party, Olayinka Oladunjoye (East), Abayomi Daramola (Central) and Babatunde Aboyade (West) will serve as deputy director-generals.
Members include representatives of the governor, deputy governor, former governors, Governance Advisory Committee (GAC), Conference 57, the National Assembly, House of Assembly, senatorial districts, former party chairmen, physically challenged, council chairmen, vice chairmen, councillors, Arewa, Ndigbo and Southsouth, security agencies and government agencies.
Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila is representing the House of Representatives, while Minister for Works and Housing Babatunde Fashola is representing former governors.
The committee, Ojelabi revealed has 16 directorates, including the Secretariat, Budget and Finance, Mobilisation, Strategic Communication, Religious and Ethnic Nationalities, Women, Students and Youths, Security and Special Duties.
Ojelabi, who said campaigns in the state will take a different turn, appealed to committee members to take their assignments seriously, because ”This is the first time Lagos has the opportunity presenting its son as a presidential candidate.
“We must forget about the acrimony of the primary and forge ahead. We must continue the process of reconciliation.”
However, the director-general of the campaign committee, Ganiyu Solomon said: ”Our government and party have no serious challenger in next year’s election,” adding that he would not take anything for granted.
