“I Take Responsibility”- Amaju Pinnick Apologizes For Nigeria’s World Cup Miss

The Ex-president of the Nigerian football federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has apologized to Nigerians for the Super Eagles’ World Cup failure.

The 52-year-old also believes if the Super Eagles were at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, they would have done admirably well.

Naija News recalls that the Super Eagles of Nigeria missed out on the Mundial after being knockout by their Neighbours, Ghana, with an away goal.

After losing to their longtime rivals, the Black Stars of Ghana, in the playoff, the Super Eagles could only watch the event from their respective homes.

The Administrator expressed regret to Nigerians for the Super Eagles’ inability to earn a spot in the tournament as the “giants of Africa”.

He also admitted fault for the team’s inability to qualify for the global tournament while speaking to Arise TV: “Like I told the African teams [like Senegal and Morocco], we want an African team to win it [ the World Cup], but if you people don’t, Nigeria will be the first to win it, maybe in the next World Cup,” he said.

“When they are playing on the field, I take them as Nigerian. And again, I will apologize to Nigerians and I take responsibility as the then President of the Federation, but I believe we have gone beyond that now.

“Let us enjoy the World Cup. Qatar has given us a wonderful spectacle to behold, and I believe we should enjoy it. I am a proud Nigerian and am happy to be here to represent the country with dignity at any time,” he added.
