Cashless Policy: Buhari, Gbajabiamila In Closed-Door Meeting
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Tuesday held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari.
Naija News learnt that Buhari and Gbajabiamila during the meeting discussed the cashless policy introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other issues.
The meeting was held on the same day the Governor of CBN, Godwin Emefiele refused to honour an invitation by the House of Representatives.
The Speaker met with President Buhari at the State House, Abuja.
Gbajabiamila while addressing newsmen at the end of the meeting said apart from the discussion on the cashless policy, they discussed issues related to the 2023 general elections.
He said, “there were issues around cashless policy, issues around elections and violence that seem to be erupting here and there are a couple of other very important matters as well.”
Emefiele Still On Official Assignment – CBN To Lawmakers
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that its Governor, Godwin Emefiele, is still on official assignment, therefore he couldn’t appear before the house as planned.
Naija News reports that this is the second time the CBN boss has failed to appear before the house in a week to answer to the latest policy by the apex bank which sets limits to cash withdrawals at Deposit Money Banks and other financial institutions.
However, the CBN wrote the House again to say Emefiele was still on official assignment.
