The Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has revealed how the former Prelate of the Methodist Church, His Eminence Sunday Mbang, met with former President Olusegun Obasanjo to tell him to allow him (Obi) be the Governor of Anambra State.

Obi made the revelation on Tuesday when he paid a courtesy call to Mbang at his home in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital.

The LP flagbearer said Mbang, as the incumbent Prelate of the Methodist Church, met with Obasanjo to tell him to support him as governor.

He said: “I was in court. I won the election and everybody here knew I won the election. Your eminence went to President Olusegun Obasanjo to say, “they say this man won the election, let him be governor.”

Obi told the former prelate that the country is going through hardship, insecurity and other malaise as a result of all the cumulative effect of leadership failure over the years.

The LP candidate said that while Obasanjo left office with no debt, the country is currently owing over $100 billion dollars.

He added: “Today, we are owing over $100 billion dollars, without anything to show for it. When we have somebody who had cleared over  $30 billion in 2007. 15 years after we are owing three times more than.”

Obi, therefore, urged the former Prelate to keep praying for Nigeria and don’t be quiet.
