CBN Reveals Pieces Of New Notes Printed
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Thursday revealed pieces of the redesigned notes printed.
The Deputy Governor of CBN in charge of Financial Stability, Aisha Ahmad while addressing lawmakers in the House of Representatives disclosed that the apex bank ordered for the printing of 500 million pieces of the redesigned notes.
Naija News had earlier reported that Ahmad when asked the quantities of the redesigned naira notes printed said she does not have the exact figure.
A lawmaker, Sada Soli, in the course of grilling the CBN deputy governor, had raised concerns over the non-availability of the new notes days after it was released to the public and asked her to disclose the quantities of new notes printed.
However, in the course of the briefing, the CBN Deputy Governor revealed that 500 million pieces of the redesigned notes were ordered for printing.
Ahmad said, “We ordered 500 million pieces of currency from the Mint. That was what we ordered.”
According to Ahmad, the cashless policy and naira redesign by the CBN is not politically motivated. Ahmad stated this when a lawmaker, Chinedu Obidigwe asked if the policy has anything to do with the 2023 general elections.
