PUNCH: The Central Bank of Nigeria has ordered Deposit Money Banks not to pay customers making over-the-counter withdrawals of new naira notes again. Instead, the apex bank directed the banks to load their Automated Teller Machines with only new notes to ensure that the currency circulates across the nation ahead of the January 32, 2023 deadline when the old notes will no longer be legal tender


The Guardian: There were mixed feelings of excitement, anger and apathy across the country yesterday as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) kept to its pledge to devolve the distribution of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to the 8,809 registration areas/wards in the country. Before now, collection of PVCs was done in the 774 local council offices of the commission. But the commission this time resolved to devolve the exercise to the 8,809 registration areas/wards from yesterday to Sunday, January 15, 2023.


The Nation: The Adamawa State Government has turned down a request by President Muhammadu Buhari for the use of the state owned Ribadu Square in Yola,the state capital for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign on Monday. Governor Ahmadu Fintiri said the square is currently undergoing renovation.


Daily Trust: The abandoned home and administrative headquarters (markas) of late Boko Haram founder, Mohammed Yusuf, near the Railway Terminus in the heart of Maiduguri, Borno State, is fast fading from the history of insurgency in Nigeria. The markas was where Boko Haram terrorists fired the first shots that placed Nigeria on the world terrorism map.
