Christian Atsu’s Agent Says Ghanaian Footballer’s Whereabouts Unknown In Turkey
Christian Atsu’s agent, Nana Sechere, claims that the footballer’s whereabouts are unclear, despite reports that he was found “with injuries” following the Turkey earthquakes on Monday.
Earlier, Mustafa Zat, the president of Hatayspor, the Turkish club of Christian Atsu, said the Ghanaian winger has been saved and responding to treatment.
Contrary to that, the Hatayspor manager Volkan Demirel told Turkish sports website Spor Arena, that both Atsu and the club’s sporting director Taner Savut, who has also gone missing during the earthquake on Monday, were yet to be found.
“At the moment, neither Savut’s location nor condition is known”, the club’s manager was quoted as saying.
In agreement with that, Christian Atsu’s agent said on Wednesday: “We are doing everything we can to locate Christian.
“As you can imagine, this continues to be a devastating time for his family.”
In a follow-up to the aforementioned, Nana Sechere noted: “Following yesterday’s update from the club that Christian had been pulled out alive, we are yet to confirm Christian’s whereabouts.
“If they were in the hospital, don’t you think I would share this? Please don’t be sure that he survived. This should not be written as he survived”.
Also, Ghana’s ambassador to Turkey, Francisca Ashietey-Odunton, told Joy FM that there was “confusion” regarding Atsu’s whereabouts.
She said: “Yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here informed me that they wanted to confirm if Christian Atsu had been found and rescued, and sent to a medical centre.
“However, in all the confusion – which is understandable under the circumstances [as you are rescued you are put in an ambulance and sent to the hospital] – they are not sure yet which particular hospital or health facility he has been sent to.
“This morning again, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has assured me they are working feverishly to find out which facility he was sent to and will get back to me as soon as possible because I have been on them that I need to go and see him.”
