Peter Obi's Campaign DG Clears The Air After Viral Statement About Oba Of Lagos

The Director General of the Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council, Akin Osuntokun has denied a viral press statement about what allegedly transpired ahead of a planned courtesy visit to the Oba of Lagos.

Osuntokun in a statement on Monday described the earlier press release which has been in circulation as fake.

The said press release claimed Peter Obi and his team couldn’t visit the Oba of Lagos in his palace to pay homage when they stormed the state on Saturday for a campaign.

According to the release which went viral, the Oba informed Obi and his team that he wasn’t available to receive them.

It alleged that the traditional ruler was only interested in seeing the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu.

However, reacting to the said press release, the Labour Party campaign DG said the earlier press release didn’t originate from him and therefore urged members of the public to disregard it.

He also denied holding any such conversation with the first-class traditional ruler or his team.

Osuntokun said: “My attention has been drawn to a fictitious “Press Release” purportedly released by me titled “Oba of Lagos : LP courtesy Visit”.

“The said deceptive release claimed, among other things that “We informed Oba of Lagos that Peter Obi wanted to come and pay homage to him before our rally in Lagos but Oba said that we should not come.

“The fictitious release further claimed that Oba’s reason for not wanting to meet with Peter Obi was that “Oba is not interested in seeing another presidential candidate except Bola Tinubu.

“I wish to clearly state that the fictitious release did not emanate from me, and I never had such a conversation with the revered Oba of Lagos or any of his representatives.

“Please disregard the release at whatever it represents. Henceforth, please disregard any other release that does not originate from our campaigns official communication channels.

“May I once again assure Nigerians that we will continue to run a campaign that is devoid of calumny, and by the grace of God we shall overcome.”
