The final installment of polls by ANAP Foundation before the February 25 presidential election in Nigeria has predicted a victory for the Labour Party (LP) flagbearer, Peter Obi.

The results put Obi in the lead ahead of other contestants including the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Bola Tinubu, and his counterparts in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, as well as the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) flagbearer, Rabiu Kwankwaso.

According to the poll results released on Wednesday, Obi is the clear favourite with 21% of registered voters choosing him and he is followed by Tinubu with 13%. Atiku occupies the third position with 10% while Kwankwaso is in a distant fourth position with 3%.

Naija News recalls the previous two opinion polls by the same organization had also predicted victories for the Labour Party candidate.

Though Wednesday’s result says Obi’s lead is significant, it added that it is not sufficient to separate him from the pack.

The details of the polls as contained in a statement by the foundation’s President and Founder, Atedo Peterside, said: “Mr. Peter Obi leads, with 21% of registered voters proposing to vote for him if the presidential election were to be conducted today; and 13% proposing to vote for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who fell in second place. Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was third with 10% and Dr. Rabiu Kwankwaso was a distant fourth with 3% of voters proposing to vote for him.

“Given the large pool of Undecided Voters and/or those who Refused to disclose their preferred choice, Mr. Peter Obi’s 8%- point lead at this stage is significant, but not sufficient to separate him from a leading pack of candidates scoring 13%, 10% and 3%.

“Undecided voters and those who prefer not to reveal their preferred candidate add up to a whopping 23% and 30% respectively. The gender split of undecided voters shows that 27% of women are undecided versus 18% of male registered voters.”
