OGC Nice Hails Nigerian Terem Moffi
The Super Eagles of Nigeria striker Terem Moffi has received plaudits from OGC Nice’s sporting director, Florent Ghisolfi, for rejecting big offers from England and Olympique Marseille.
According to reports, Nice made a seventh offer for Terem Moffi on the final day of the January transfer window.
After a series of back and forth, the Nigerian international reportedly accepted Nice’s offer of €30 million while at French Ligue 1 club Lorient.
While the 23-year-old Nigerian striker was at Lorient, he was one of Ligue 1’s most productive scorers, tallying 12 goals in the first half of the season. However, since he joined OGC Nice on the transfer deadline day last month, he is yet to score.
Amidst the drop in form, Ghisolfi argued that Terem Moffi made the right choice by transferring to Allianz Riviera, adding that the Nigerian striker joined the club because he trusted in the club’s project.
“He believed in our project. He had the feeling that he was going to be happy and successful in Nice. Today he is like a fish in water. I really think we are the right club for Terem,“ Ghisolfi told Sport.fr.
“He recovered the number 9, even if Marseille had promised him to. What we are building really corresponds to what we are looking for in terms of values.
“It was long and complicated. He always showed the conviction that he wanted to go to Nice. Sincerely, I ask everyone to be aware of what this represents.
“To have big English clubs and Marseille asking for you and with whom he already had an additional agreement! If he said ‘ok’, he signed the next day, when we did not yet have this agreement. It’s really a big signal sent to OGC Nice.”
