More Gains For Gbenga Daniel As Two Senatorial Candidates Step Down, Join APC In Ogun East
Two senatorial candidates from the Ogun East Senatorial District have reportedly stepped down from the race for the former state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, ahead of the polls.
Naija News reports that the two candidates, who are from the Action Alliance (AA), Chief Dayo Ogunjebe and the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Mrs Funmilayo Idris have also dumped their respective parties for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to the two former candidates, they decided to team up with Daniel because they are sure he was “the best man for the job.”
According to them, Daniel, a former governor of the state has the capacity, track record, rich experience and other qualities required to effectively represent Ogun East at the National Assembly.
It was learnt that their defection was announced at a mega rally held by Daniel to close his campaign for the 2023 polls at the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area Secretariat, Itoro, Ijebu-Ode at the weekend.
While Ogunjebe, the candidate from AA in his remarks said Daniel remains tested and trusted and should be supported by all well-meaning people, his ADP counterpart Idris explained that she decided to halt her senatorial ambition for Daniel because she was always told by electorates whenever she campaigned then that their votes were for only Daniel.
Therefore, she decided to support the winning team by mobilising support for the APC senatorial candidate.
The defectors, with their supporters, were officially received into the APC by the party’s South-West Zonal Woman Leader, Mrs Yetunde Adesanya, who promised that they would be integrated and given a sense of belonging.
