Moghalu Reacts To Killing Of Labour Party Senatorial Candidate In Enugu
Former presidential candidate of the African Democratic Party (ADC), Kingsley Moghalu has condemned the killing of the Labour Party (LP) senatorial candidate for Enugu East Senatorial District, Oyibo Chukwu.
Naija News had earlier reported that Chukwu was killed and set ablaze alongside five supporters who were with him inside his car.
The incident happened at Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area on Wednesday evening.
It was gathered that unidentified persons were said to have accosted them while riding in a Sienna vehicle.
The incident was confirmed by the governorship candidate of the LP in the state, Chijioke Edeoga.
According to Edeoga, the gunmen shot him inside his vehicle with five other people with him and set the car ablaze.
Edeoga further stated that their party members are being targeted for assassination by their opposition ahead of the 2023 general elections.
Reacting to the incident, Moghalu stated that Chukwu was his classmate at the University of Nigeria (Enugu Campus) Law Faculty.
The former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) wondered why politics has to be this desperate and violent.
Moghalu in a post on his Twitter account wrote, “What a tragedy! I’m deeply saddened. Oyibo was my classmate at the University of Nigeria (Enugu Campus) Law Faculty. Does politics have to be this desperate and violent?
“May his soul rest in peace. My sincere condolences to Oyibo Chukwu’s family.”
