#NigeriaDecides: INEC Chair, Mahmood Gives Update On Election Progress
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, has said things relatively went well in today’s presidential and national assembly elections.
The INEC boss made the remark while addressing the media and foreign observers at the collation Center in Abuja on Saturday evening, Naija News reports.
Yakubu submitted that the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) machine performed optimally nationwide during the presidential election.
He stressed that reports made available to the commission across boards affirmed all went relatively well with its technologies.
“There were ballot boxes snatched here and there, but it appears that the target of those who want to undermine the election is the BVAS. We would continue to do everything to protect the process and proceed courageously,” he stated.
However, it was learned that some electorates and a Labour Party agent clashed in the Kuje area of Abuja as INEC officials experienced glitches in uploading results on the machine.
The disagreement happened at Polling Unit (PU 038) at Prison Headquarters Road, Kuje.
Presidential election results from the PU revealed that Labour Party polled 190 votes while PDP and APC got 15 and 21, respectively.
