We Are More Focused On Hunger Than Election – Katsina Trader
Some Nigerians have expressed their desire to get cash to buy food to feed their family, rather than prepare for the election.
A trader who spoke on condition of anonymity with Independent said people of Katsina State are going about their business and are not bothered about the presidential and national assembly election today.
He said, “My brother, we are more focused here on how to get the money we saved in the bank to feed our family than election. Though those that are very close to the government have no choice even if they don’t like it. The situation is terrible. I better get food first before I start thinking about election.”
The 47-year-old trader when asked if voting the wrong person will not make the situation worse in the country said, “It is like you are not getting my point. If you don’t have food to eat, you are very close to the graveyard. If you die, the government will continue. Is the government not aware of this before they embark on this policy? ‘Abeg,’ leave me alone.”
A Kaduna State civil servant said people of the state are not obeying Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s directives to continue spending old notes.
He said, “Our governor is not a bank. If you spend an old note and the bank does not collect it from you, will the governor come and collect and change it for you? To be on the safer side, most of us are busy looking for means of getting new notes to spend order than using the old ones. These politicians are very selfish and wicked. God will judge everybody according to what he does. They cannot be on the seats forever.”
